Birdies Country Club & Cocktails is an all women’s country club created as my senior capstone project. Country clubs have historically catered primarily to men, often excluding or limiting the participation of women in leisure or networking opportunities. The lack of female representation in country clubs reflects broader issues of gender discrimination and exclusion in society, reinforcing stereotypes about women’s roles and capabilities, perpetuating the notion that they belong primarily in domestic spheres rather than participating fully in public life.
Birdies caters to women of all ages and backgrounds and provides them with a space to play, relax, and socialize with others free from gender biases and marginalization, empowering them to cultivate their talents, build supportive networks, and challenge gender stereotypes and ideologies. The club offers golf, pickleball, and tennis and has a brunch lounge and cocktail bar called The Pink Putter on site.
I drew significant inspiration from the classic charm of traditional country club aesthetics, infusing it with a layer of femininity through my type choices and color palette. I also incorporated fun, kitschy phrases throughout the brand to add ombre interest and to imbue a sense of Birdie’s personality.
